Hola!
At the end of my last post I was about to hop on one of the Barcelona tour buses. There are two routes - Green and Orange - and the ticket covers both. I chose to take the Green Route first as it stops at the Sagrada Familia.
It was a very overcast morning but it didn't stop me braving the open-top upper deck and enjoying the sights of Barcelona.
Note the little crowns on the lamps
First we visited the Gothic quarter with its cathedral peeking through the trees.
We then went down to the port.
We passed the Mapfre Tower, which is the joint tallest building in Barça with its twin, the Arts Hotel tower.
Next came the Agbar Tower, the third tallest building in the city after the aforementioned twins. Agbar is a big water company. At night they light up the tower in beautiful multicoloured displays.
We passed the El Monumental bullring; since bullfighting was banned in Catalonia in 2010 it is now used for concerts and other events. A really beautiful building, it's sad to think that it was built for something so horrible.
We trundled from the port area back towards the city centre, where we would stop at the one place I was really determined to visit: the Sagrada Familia cathedral.
Watch this space: my next post will be all about the cathedral and the beauty both outside and in.
Thanks for reading,
